I fell so wimpy

I’m not a big macho guy never have been but I never thought of myself as wimpy, after reading all the horror storys I my gout seemsminor to some of you I have had only 1 (maybe 2 ) attacks and thatwas triggered(?) by my knee surgery the doctor drained it and I wenton my merry way. My uric acid levels were “slightly” (his word)elevated. When do I look at medicating for this? Right now diet andexercise are what he has me on> The problem is what do I eat thereare some definite “stay away from’s” but there seems to be manydifferent opinions where do I go for fact’s?Also, it’s funny how many people I know that have my same situation, gout and diabetes that I never knew about, is there a coralationbetween the two (besides lifestyle)?

DON’T! kid yourself..I have discussed this with PLENTY ofexperts/Dr.,read,researched this..gout is in the top 5 of the mostpainful..if not THE most painful of human experiences..I would fairlydescribe myself as fairly tough..discussions ofgout/pain/wimpiness..pretty much END.I have a thick medicalfile..injuries/athletic..severe lacerations, broken bones,sprains..Ihad a severe shoulder seperation..(a/c)..NOT the kind you pop backin..I was discussing this with an egy Dr and I said I would give thata 7..8..out of 10..and I would give gout about a 300 out of 10!Ithink this is why I the medical profession here seems to fall allover anyone with gout. There are also a LOT more people than we hearabout that have 1..ONE attacks and say “Hey Doc..F thisSH..NEVER,NEVER again!!! fix this will ya..right to theallopurinol…I thought I knew pain..I think it is fair to say thatsomeone doesn’t know real pain until they have had a bad goutattack.I know people that have had kidney stones..and they say theyare bad..very bad..but not THAT bad..and people that have hadboth..different kind of pain..bad..BAD but not the gout like type ofpain.

“Slightly” elevated uric acid levels are a tough sell for someDr.’s..others don’t believe it’s gout.Mine have NEVER been out of theaverage range.

You have to somehow get those levels down by 20 to 30% and intothe low average range..and keep them there.

Watch/monitor your levels..PREPARE yourself that you may needallopurinol..you most likely will..pretty much 100% sure onthat.Don’t fool around with this diet thing too long..

    I can tell ya this..you don’t get those levels down..you knowwhat’s next.

As far as the diet goes..if I were you and trying this..I’ld satyaway from all the stuff that other people have said is bad..see whatthat does..
