6th day of allopurinol….

Started allopurinol on the 11th and have taken 100mgs daily. Veryparanoid when I first took and had my wife stay with me all day incase something happened as far as an allergic type reaction. Iknow,I know, give me a break though, you cannot ignore the fact thatso many scary things are said to be possible although slim…kindalike winning the lottery..hahaha… So far so good! See nephrologiston the 20th to check kidney function and will follow up in 1 monthfor complete work-up (CBC,liver, kidney, uric acid, and urine). Docsays to start slow at 100mg for a month due to concern with kidneys, not many previous attacks, and the slow buildup of allopurinol willhelp control the possibility of bringing on an attack (along withibuprofen as prophalaxis).I have noticed painful twinges that comeand go quickly in the areas of my last attack(ankle, instep, achilles). Anyone else with similar experiences? Alsohave felt a bit tired but that is probably from lack of sleep. MaybeI am just being my hypochondriac self.

Yes my experience exactly the same as you.  Started Allop four weeks ago.  300 mg daily as well as 3 tabs of Colchicine and one tab of Diclofenac.  Also complete abstinence of alcohol.  Same initial twinges that took three weeks to clear.  Now feel perfectly fine.

Welcome back to your own life.

Make sure you keep the extra three glasses of water coming every dayand relax.

Your twinges and even small attacks are what all of us have gonethrough. Treat the attacks like you have always treated an attack,NSAID and a little culcchine. You will still get small attacks andthey will last only 24 to 36 hours at most. However, at 100 a day youmay still get a big attack. My opinion is that you will need to getto 300 a day and hold it there for about three years to be free ofexcess uric acid and therefore gout.

If you are going to have a reaction to the drug, it will not besomething sudden. It will start slowly and you will probably not evennotice it at first. Watch for a rash.

As I said, welcome back to your own life.
