3 attacks in a year = allopurinol?

My doctor confirmed I had gout about six weeks ago. I am 34 yo andhave binge drinked at least once a week since the age of 22. I alsoweightlift for the last 16 years and weigh a healthy 280 at 6′6″. Mygout started in my right ankle and over the course of three weeksmoved around the same ankle (in and out of pain). During diagnosesuric acid was 9.3. I have had readings of 7.7 and 8.1 since stoppingbinge drinking. Indomethacin did nothing but cause stomach problems, found relief with Ibuprofen 800mg 4x daily. Doc also prescribedcolchicine but I was too terrified to use after reading it was apoison that messed with your DNA at the mitochondria. Why wouldanyone use this stuff?

Now that you have a little history, my doc says to wait until youhave three attacks in one year before starting allopurinol. I havealso read the same info on other gout related sites. He also statesthat allopurinol is not prescribed “lightly”. Has anyone’s kidneyfunction declined or other metabolic changes taken place fromallopurinol? I am worried because my creatinine levels tend to behigh at times from 1.8 to 1.3, average being 1.5 (doc says probablydue to muscle mass). How nephrotoxic is this med? I also noticeArnold says to not wait on taking allopurinol because gout willreturn stronger and more frequent. What should I do? Should I waitor should I tell doc about more attacks so he will prescribe?

Go on allopurinol and drink more water than you normally do.

Make sure you consume at least an extra quart a day of water aboveand beyone what you would normally drink.

This is only my opinion. I feel if you are taking anything thatstates liver kidney malfunction you are further harming yourself ,,try to find the source of the illness,,i have been through acouple of attacks with no prescriptions,,PAIN but didnt stop healing

we are all damaged goods , Why? Why did we lose the ability orchemical that keeps uric acid from crystalizing in our joints?Metaltoxic?i can live without my big toe or ankle ,, but I am kindaattached to my liver and kidneys,,Clean up as much as you can,,waterin plastic bottles contains lead(reverse osmosis water in carbonatecontainers ),,toothpaste has lead in it ,,no chlorine bleach on yourclothes,,organic food only,, no pesticides ,,no cleaningproducts ,,instead clean with vineagar,, remove amalgams havereplaced with composites ,no petroleum furmiture polish ,, try toincrease air quality in your home ,,I feel this is all anaccumulation of toxins .Dont put anything on your skin you wouldntput in your mouth, take epsom salt bath to draw out toxins and applecider vineagar bath to reduce acidity..get a hair sample done fortoxic metals ,,,only organic fertilizer ,, take extra antioxidantsand vitamins,, this is only my opinion and others read up on itgreen tea is good and Ojibwa tea I have read is great Ojibwatea.com

You need to hit the uric acid level with at LEAST a 25-30% drop.. Colchicine..sure it is SHT..BAAAaad stuff!!..so what..take itwhile you have to and be done with it.This stuff has been around ANDused for 2500 years..there is almost no documented use of it damaginganyone in anyway..the stuff is STILL prescribed..more than we like tothink. The damaging effect of colchicne in higher doses/longer peroidson it..(peripheral neuropathy)..been there temporarily..is the almostexclusive domain of the likes of me..fiddling around and not dealingwith gout. There are VERY few doctors that think..or like to deal withgout by this method alone..and colchicine WITH allopurinol..and theattendent amount of water..plus the reduction of uric acid ANDdeposits..is in the words of the Dr’s I have seen..”harmless”..againblood tests can pretty well confirm damage. The weird/scarystuff..sure the potential is there..how great is the danger?Deal withthe gout and don’t take it/don’t worry about it.

My creatinine level has not changed.
