Possible allopurinol side effect?
Ofcourse, it may be totally unrelated to theallopurinol. Or it might be a kidney stone of anon-calcium variety. Or you may have a viral infectionwhich has been exacerbated by allopurinol, such asEBV, CMV, or HH6. Such viral infections often induce ahypersensitivity to allopurinol.

NO. I am not a doctor, but I went through this recently. Have your gallbladder checked- if it is sick, you will not regret the surgery. I was vaguely ill for years, then acutely ill for days and finally went to the ER. Two days later I was home, less a gallbladder, and have felt better (gastrointestinally) than I have for years. It made no difference whatsoever in my gout attacks, but at least it’s one less physical ailment vexing me, and the surgery is done laproscopically now, so it takes maybe 30 minutes and you are outta there. No more cutting of the diaphragm. Do yourself a favor and get it checked out.

I put off any gout therapy other than pain relievers for 6 or 7 years,because I didnt want to admit that I had goutit seemed like an old, richmans disease and I didnt think of myself as old or rich. My sites havebeen my left big toe and ankle.
This group smartened me up to the possible bad effects of delaying therapyand what a bad idea it might bejoint damage, unnecessary pain, etc.
Two weeks ago I started Allopurinol, 300 mg once a day, because my serumuric acid level was up to 8.2 and I had been experiencing peri-goutsensations. I was convinced by the testimonies and stern advice given in thegroup that Allopurinol therapy is the ONLY answer.
I think it is going to work. The tingling sensations and small gouty painshave subsided. However, I am wondering if I am having a side effect thatothers have encountered, and whether I should have more testing done.
Prior to initiating the Allopurinol, I had an occasional (1 or 2 times perweek), nocturnal abdominal pain in my upper right quadrant. The pain wasvery localized and sharp, but low in intensity (maybe 2-3 on a scale of10where 10 is a kidney stone).
This pain has gone on for a couple of years. Sounded like gall bladderproblems to my family physician, so I had an ultrasoundnothing seen, then amore complicated radio-isotope test to see if the ducts were blockednothingalso. So, just like with the gout, I decided to live with it.
Since beginning the Allopurinol, the pain is still localized and sharp, butoccurs every night and persists through most of the day. It definitelyappears to be position dependent. Now, the intensity has risen to 5 or 6 attimes.
Anyone have a similar experience? Advice?
