Gout free
I’m happy to report that we are coming out of Winter and heading intospring and I haven’t had an attack yet. My first post introducingmyself a while back , I had stated that I have a real rough time duringthe winter months with gout, in fact I typically spend most of thewinter months limping around or out for a week to 3 weeks here andthere. Last winter I believe that I had 4 or 5 attacks throughout thewinter/spring season.
I have made some changes in my life primarily due to gout and the fearof getting diabetes (my mother has diabetes). The first was readingthrough some of the posts here. You definitely need to pick and choosewhich things seem to make sense. The most valuable data I got was fromArnold the skier and Walter(Thank you both). Accordingly, I got mydose of allopurinol increased from 100mg to 300mg daily. My doctoralso recommended the South Beach Diet - which is a low carb diet thatis focused on the glycemic index. Also from the posts I have read, Icompletely ignored these so called “low/high purine food” lists as wellas all the other “snake oils”(A multi-vitamin and my allopurinol is allI take now). My diet is higher in protein as compared to beforedieting but much lower in saturated fats. In addition, I’ve alsostarted exercising. Lifting weights and cardio. Cardio about 4-5times a week.
Results: I’ve lost 20lbs in the 4 weeks I’ve been on the diet and Ispent this past weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, ice skating. Howwonderful it is to exercise without the fear of retaliation. Myankles(typically my gout spots) have been sore a few times afterintense exercise and I thought I would get an attack like I normally dothe following day, but nothing ever came. I haven’t had an attack inmonths - not since I’ve increased my dosage of allopurinol as a matterof fact.
I haven’t had a blood test done in a couple months but I plan to havethat done in the next couple weeks. I will post the before and afterresults.

Congrats man!..here is a little exercise tidbit..I have not triedit..take it for what it is worth.I saw on tv once..AND in an exercisevideo..AS WELL as seeing it on the net..this exercise is basicallyfor the toes..BUT it has been mentioned in FORCING circulationthrough the synovial tissue/joint tissue..thus increasingcirculation.MY thinking..as well as what I read felt that circulationof blood/joint fluid..at the bodies extremities_..where the coolingof the uric acid/crystalizing occurs..plus the circulation ain’t thatgood there.
Pretty simple..place a weight on a towel.Place the towel on aslippery floor.Place JUST your toes on the towel.Now..scrunch up yourtoes..to pull the weight towards you
