Will my toe ever look normal again?

I’m on various medication that keeps my gout in control. I get gouton my fourth toe of my foot..the pain is totally gone no attacks in awhile. But my toe still looks like a purple vienna sausage. Why is itnot returning to a normal appearance? Will it happen in time? Or isthere deposits which will have to be surgically removed?

You’re on “various medication that keeps your gout in control”.?Are you on allopurinol? You don’t want gout “under control”..mostpeople see this as attack free. You want the uric acid that is in thejoints..broken down/dissolved..back in circulation..pee’d down thetoliet.Allopurinol is about the only way that the deposits willleave. It stops your body from producing as much uric acid..the restthat is there will break down/dissolve..leave.Ideally.Of coursedepending on how long it has been allowed to accumulate willdetermine how long they will take to break down.True..some depositswill not leave..others can be reomved..then again others can’t beremoved.

I got gout about 6 months, I switched my diet, still drink alot of water and I have not gotten a gout attack since, my big toe was ugly, no shrimp, no wine, beer, no beef, I eat chicken, no soy, lots of cherries, you might want to get off the medication after you change you diet, good luck. Check the internet for a diet, follow it and see what happens.

Gout is a form of arthritis.  So is psoriatic arthritis which often comes with what is called “sausage digit”.  I know - I have both. Your vienna sausage toe may be an indication of something more than gout.Have yourself checked out for PA.
