Peripheral male plumbing problems associated with gout?

I have had gout about 8 years, being diagnosed in my late 30’s about 1 yearafter a severe heat exhuastion episode.

Allopurinal w/colchicine for flare-ups is THE treatment as far as I can tell. (Doc. says if it doesn’t respond to colchicine it ain’t gout…it sure worked forme)

Since this ailment is at least vaguely related to kidney function, I wonder–I have occasional pain in lower left center of my lower abdomen ( where an ovarywould be on a woman) could this be related to gout ? as in a blocked ureter orsomething? Also I have occasional testicular pain/swelling— this probablyISN’t related– I had a vasectomy a couple years ago as well.

Anybody had any experience with non-joint related pains traced back to gout? Oris middle age just generally catching up with me?

Are you on, and have you been on allopurinol for 8 years?

A frequent complaint from people on prolonged use of allopurinol ismuscle and body aches. Some have associated it with the consumptionof nutra sweet laden colas along with their allopurinol. Eliminationof the nutra sweet seems to help but not fix the problem. If you areon 300 mg, you might consult your physician about reducing it-I am on100 now and will go to 200 in a 4 weeks. If you are on 300 you maynot need that much.

I wish there wre a way for each of us to measure out current uricacid load. there is no way at the present time but I think about it50 times a day and feel I’ll get something that will work. I amthinking that an assay of a needle biopsy of fat tissue might be veryuseful. I don’t like the idea of being probed but a needle in my fat,my tummy by the way, would only hurt a little while and the biopsyalong with a blood serum urate measure would be able to give us anexact status of our uric acid load.
