Allopurinol during an attack
i went to the doctors at the beginning of this week asi had ran out of drugs for it and was in the middle ofan attack. because of all the arguments on this listabout whether allopurinol should be taken during anattack, i asked him that specific question.
his exact words were “i wouldnt start takingallopurinol during an attack, but i would continuetaking it during an attack”. aaaah, more confusion!!
just my 0.02.
another point, has anyone had attacks in theirshoulder? if you have had this, did parts of your hand(at the end of the affected arm) go numb and remain sofor days? this has happened to me during this attack, although it may be from elevating the arm above myhead (only pain free place for it to go!)

Hi..here’s my 2 cents on the taking of allopurinol during anattack..maybe..it depends..well..I’m not tryng to be a jacka… Ijuts don’t think the answer to that question is known. OH THE SHOULDER ATTACK!!..funny you should ask..after a year onallopurinol/colchicne every day..I started to get gout..not bad..notattacks..but this painful feet/swollen..THEN my shoulder..I startedas I was instructed to do..to up the colchicne..so I did..it wasgetting worse..my hand/parts of it started going numb..I used toshake it/have to like mad..to bring it back to life..I’ld wake up inthe night..and my hand/wrist would be numb..back to the shaking/morecolchicine/indomethicine..this nonsense went on for months! It wasgetting worse..more drugs..one day for some unknown reason I forgotto take the colchicne/indomethicine..I was PARANOID that nowsomething BAD was gonna happen..nothing did..when I did take thedrugs..back to the problem..I gradually stopped taking the drugs..Ijust took allopurinol. When I saw the 3 Dr.s I see again..theirresponse..”Oh you were OVERDOSING on the colchicine”..myresponse..”Huhn..this started THEN I took(as instructed)moredrugs..THEN it got worse..SO I stopped the drugs..THEN it gotbetter..what is with this???”..their response..”Hmmm..gout is a VERYcomplicated disease..maybe don’t take any more drugs untill you haveanother attack..”..and my last response..LAUGHING..”Ok..so if I havean attack..take drugs..if the attack gets worse..take lessdrugs”..their response..”good NOW you are getting a goodunderstandingofgout..THIS is what we deal with EVERY day in regardsto gout!”http://www.yahoo.co.uk/btoffer
