Any med with less side effects than allopurinol?

just started a week ago on the allopurinol and am in worse pain thanbefore I was on the med.

anyone try something other than allopurinol with better results? oris allopurinol the best out there for now?

    When you start Allopurinol with a gout attack already in progress itwill make it worse before it gets better. I’ve had a couple doctorstell me this and some web research as well as my own experience andthat of my brother back it up. Doctors who know a little about goutand allo usually give you anti-inflammatories to treat the symptomsduring the attack, then have you start the allo once the attack isover.

    I have heard conflicting reports on this - some on this group havereported concurrent prescriptions for colchicine and allopurinol -but the doctors I dealt with all agreed that Allo was best startedafter the attck had subsided. They prescribed Indocid, an antiinflammatory (NSAID).

    Sorry you’re in pain. Allopurinol takes a long time to do it’s job. Atleast 3 months in my case.
