Rid of gout

I have always been overweight, since i wasa little kid, and I first got gout at 17 (and 17 stone), when i wentto the docs thinking i’d broken my toe. was diagnosed with gout afterblood tests. this was through excessive drinking, rather than beinginherited, i think. Since then, I have had occasional attacks, especially when i was 19-21 yrs old (and weighted 21 stone) and hadto completely stop drinking for nine months.

Now, i’ve lost 5 stone (am 16 st now), and i only ever get gout thatlasts for a day or so, rather than a couple of weeks. the reasoni’vedecided to join the list? i’ve just spent the last weekrecovering from a rather bad attack, which i think was brought on byantibiotics i had to take after having a wisdom tooth removed (notbeing able to eat OR walk is fun fun fun, let me tell you!), and thisattack has lasted for ten days now, andf thats with anti goutantibiotics!

what i want to know is has anyone managed to get rid of gout througheveryday substances. i find the advice from doctors to “stay awayfrom rhubarb, port and liver” a little python-esque to be takenseriously :) - also, does anyone have friends that take the mickeyout of them for having gout??? my friends are merciless!!!!

Instead of being a mysterious nuisance, gout attacks really can beminimized and sometimes eliminated by avoiding (or at leastmoderating) certain types of foods. Certainly weight is a factor, but from what I understand, the most important variable is what youcontinue to put in your mouth day after day.

A few days ago, I sent a post with a few things I know about toavoid, prevent, and perhaps eleviate gout attacks. I shall repost itfor your benefit.

300 mg Allopurinol per day here. A godsend. I drink alcoholwith impunity. I eat food with with impunity - had a huge rumpsteak two days ago with no effect. I do confess some suspicionabout Marmite though - and have cut it out. My policy is simple. If you sense an attack coming on - DRINK WATER. I’d guess aboutfour times what you want to drink. And a minimum of four litresper day. Wash it all away with water - and cleanse your liver. This is my engineering logic.

I have no side effects from Allopurinol - save the trouble ofremembering to take one tablet each day.
