Hi..I have had the EXACT! thing happen..From what I was told byexperts(Dr.,s,specialists AND later learned, understood from readingstudying)this is NOT an abnormal occurrence with gout.It is actuallya normal part of the progression of the disease.I am quite sure ifyou consult/see enough experts..read/study enough you will beconvinced also that this a pretty normal progression of thedisease.NO! true this does NOT always happen..but it sure notuncommon..NOT at all rare..and actually no big deal..or surprise.

I am GUESSING that you are NOT on medication..DAILY for gout(allopurinol) IF you are then there are other issues to be dealtwith..perhaps more allo?BUT if you are NOT on allopurinol then thefollowing is what happenened to me and is MOST likely happenning toyou as it has to others.

What is ALMOST certainlly happenning is that the deposits of uricacid are STILL in your big toe area. They ain't goin' NOWHERE withoutdaily medication(allo) to help remove them.

Gout..and it's attendent deposits LIKE to return/go to the SAMEarea..SOooo the deposits head there..back to your toe area..findingthis area pretty much full already..OR not being able to reach it doto circulatory problems..they get stalled..due to the poorcirculation.Once stalled..stagnant..MORE uric acid is now added tothe area..at an extremity..there is more cooling..before you know itthere is a NEW site/SITES for the uric acid to collect.

The REAL danger of gout untreated is that the deposits will prettymuch GUARANTEED continue to grow!..You will NOT find this out..NORcan it be tested for/checked UNTIL the next gout attack.

I personally fiddled around without treating gout UNTIL I had suchSEVERE deposits in BOTH feet(WITHOUT) my knowledge!! that I hadMASSIVE attacks..The attacks were such that 1 foot would EXPLODE inpain and swelling in LITERALLY a few seconds..explode as in size 9 toabout size 15(actual)this swelling and pain would go AS FAST as itcame..THEN to the other foot..back and forth..BOTH feet doingthis..ALL in the space of a few seconds..

The larger swelling area is simply caused by the greater whiteblood cell response..to a larger concentration of uricacid/crystallization ..and the congestion/pooling/swelling in an areaof much greater circulation.

I could be wrong..it could indeed be a reaction/your particularreaction to the drug you are taking and it's interaction with a whiteblood cell reaction..or one of the MULTITUDE of chemicals associatedwith uric acid crystal breakdown/white blood cell attack. You may verywell be on allopurinol..maybe just not enough..OR you body is dealingwith the migratory effect of uric acid as the allopurinol helps init's disposal..

LOL..let us know please if you are on allopurinol..we are ALLlearning about gout..just that when I see a hunch about gout..I getmy nose up in the air and start sniffing around..I am not often wrongabout gout..BUT I gotta admit this was a STAB IN THE DARK..

It is a pretty accurate statement that gout deposits NEVER,EVERleave!..without daily medication.NEVER!..the deposits that are in acertain area..simply stay..waiting to RE-IGNITE over some sillywhim/trigger/injury OR NOTHING!..they can/and JUST MAY wreakPERMANENT damage where they are..and then MORE deposits developelsewhere.

The toe to whole foot progression is quite normal..HOWEVER theprogression AFTER that is VERY unpredicatble..

Thank You Arnold!!!!

You have given the very ultimate best advice I haveever found, the absolute truth... The truth being... Get to a doctor that will prescribe Allo and enjoylife again!

Going along with what you have written, I had this"feeling" on the bottom of my left foot like walkingon crepe paper....must have been full of crystals....

No amount of cherry juice or other snake oil isgoing to do the job, I know from bad experience

My foot (not feet right foot) was swollen and I went from a size 10 (44) to a ten and a half (46) but now that my gout attacks have subsideded so has my foot. I bought some new shoes recently and got into size 10 again.

So as soon as you get the monster under control, hopefully your feet will return to original size.

Good luck with your treatment. I have been on allopurinol for six months now and apart from a few minor episodes I am relatively gout free

After years of achilles tendon & knee tendon problems, attributed to weak calf muscles etc,

I was finally diagnosed with gout, I had never had problems with my toe joint.

The diagnosis was eventually made by a rheumy because my foot had become swollen particularly the sole of my foot, it was like walking on coals & lasted 3 weeks. The pain then moved all around the said foot & came back to the sole.

I had never had a problem with that foot previously & there was no trauma. My conclusion is now that this was my saturation point where MR gout decided to declare his hand. I'm now taking Allo & have told him to clear off.
