Quickly..if you are on allo..and have been for a while..DRINKUP!..beer,wine,vodka.

Gout is caused by glass-like crystals in the joints.Once ya get ‘emthey stay for life. The ONLY way to get rid of them has/wasprobenicid..then allo for the last 40 years..now the promise ofuricase and a few other new drugs.EITHER the joint fluid uric acidlevel is lowerred with the drugs..AND the crystals can re-join theirbuddies..BACK into solution and on their way to the kidneys/toilet. Leaving the crystals, adding more uric acid to them there..opens thedoor to ALL kinds of different chemical reactions/white blood cellreactions.WORSE is that these chemical reactions are different fordifferent people.1 gout attack tells us that there are crystals inthe joint.ALL too often the person will NOT want to go onallopurinol..and will attempt to hide..avoid the triggers.Thissometimes appears to work for a while..UNTIL the situation getsworse. The “trigger base/mechanism” becomes unstable/changes(ing) andthe attack is set off by something else. This leaves the allopurinolhater swearing that he left the vodka alone..and looking for anotherthing to blame..often resorting to snake oil.Eventually attacks willbe IMPOSSIBLE! to pinpoint blame/triggers.EVEN for the medicalexperts. They will go away on their own..and come again on theirown..ALL the time making the eventual treatment more difficult andthe greater degree of permanent damage more likely. “Triggers” are seen as either chemcial OR purine content(adding tothe the uric acid load).Alcohol was once “known” to be loaded withpurines..and this caused the attack.Alcohol has basically NO purinecontent. It is now known that alcohol per se is not/can notreally/readily,easily even be identified as a trigger.BUT! there arecertain/chemicals NOT yet identified IN the drink..different fordifferent beer/wine/spirits that CAN in different individuals triggeran attack of gout in a person who HAS gout. If you are/have been on allopurinol AND the uric acidload/deposits have shifted/left the body OR lessened/most of themleft..THEN there will be less crystals..and the chance of attackstriggerred by anything will be much less. Alcohol as a trigger is pretty much seen as NOT much of a triggerCOMPARED to the likes of brocoli.Dehydration seen as such a greattrigger that many say that it is so important.paramount..that it isnot even a trigger.

So yes…IF you have untreated gout..SOME forms of alcohol MAY(like anything else)trigger an attack.

MANY people going on allopurinol say that they can almostimmediately eat/drink what they want again. This is false..and justabout impossible. If someone has chronic gout..large deposits..repeatuntriggerd ferocious attacks.1 allopurinol pill..or a few..is NOTgoing to make ANY difference. This takes time.In NUMEROUS discussionswith experts on this very point.Experts agree that “triggers” arealmost ALL anecdotal in evidence/reference and there are NOclinical/empirical studies to indicate EXACTLY what the personate/did..and how they reacted. It is generally agreed thatthe “trigger base” became unstable at some point..and the personeventually ends up NOT 100% sure of what caused the latest attack.Theexperts can’t figure it out either.

We DO know that no crystals=no need to worry about attacks beingtriggered.

I now realise that due to my gout (unrecognised at the time) I had stoppedriding my push bike due to joint pain.

Within a year I had put on two stone (20 miles a day commuting to work tolittle or no exercise at all, still eating the same amount = fast weightgain).

When I went to the doctor he told me my weight was a factor in my gout. NowI know, it was my gout that was a factor in my weight.

Back on my bike now, gout free for a few months, going back to doctor soonand asking for allupurinol (yeah right, while I haven’t got it, it’s noturgent, until my next attack…).

In general, more health issues arrise when you are overweight. I thinkWalter may be able to give you a more indepth explanation but from myunderstanding, when you exceed what your body can use many conflictswithin your system arrise. When I was very overweight I noticed allthe health problems I have/had. Getting your weight under control iskey in overall good health, not to mention keeping the additionalstrain off your joints which also seem to trigger gout attacks if yourare just floating on the edge of tolerance.

Get on the allopurinol asap. Riding your bike is not making theproblem go away. The uric acid is still building in your system andwill result in more frequent attacks.

I don’t really think anymore that weight(overweight)/diet reallymatters much with gout.

It used to be “known” that the excess weight/fat metabolized andADDED to the overall uric acid load.ESPECIALLY duringovereating/drinking/dieting.”THIS” then causedgout/attacks.Dieting,exercise AVOIDING “triggers” was then seen asthe way to go.The attacks came back..worse..like they ALWAYS do..ofcourse this only ADDED to the uric acid/crystals in the joint.THENcame the “favouring” of the joint..limping,walking on the sides ofthe feet. This only stressed stuff..walking improperly. We no havejoints improperly stressed..ADD a gout attack to this..joints thatare becoming more and more irritated..OBVIOUSLLY leading to a FURTHERlack of activity.

None of that stuff worked.THEN came the thinking..still prevalentthat it is the ACTUAL increased weight on the joint..NOT the uricacid load that was causing the trouble with overweight goutees.

The uric acid load/level changes fromdieting/food/alcohol/triggers are REALLY INSIGNIFIGANT..it used to bethought that diet could influence the blood uric acid level to amximum of 15%.Experts on gout/medical studies/textbooks DO NOTBELIEVE that a person can really do ANYTHING(other than allopurinol)do ACTUALLY AND CONSISTENTLLY reduce it by 5%..think about it.Thinkabout it..get an average of blood tests. This is your level.NOW dowhatever and see if you can KEEP the level 5% below thatlevel..FOREVER..none of this..ya ya see see garbage..ONLY to see thatin a few years the level has crept UP and iS BEYOND the originaland..oh no..here is Monsieur Gout..oh dear me..time fordiet/triggers/snake oil.Like the Dr’s I see/talkto/researchers..PLENTY of people have tried it..

Anyway..you need a consistent drop of 20 to 30% in blood uric acidlevels to deal with gout..NOT 5..10..or EVEN 15%

Allopurinol..blood uric acid levels LOWERRED..that is the FIRSTorder of business here.Sure..sudden dietary changes can trigger anattack..so don’t do them.Get on the allo..and GRADUALLY change yourdiet..lifestyle..exercise..the deposits will leave..the gout willleave..the joints will not hurt..they will regain normalmovement..you’ll lose weight..

YA like NO kidding..WHO wantsta DO ANYTHING!! with joints that areFD up with uric acid crystals..NO WONDER! people put on weighttrying dealing with gout.

Brocoli became the latest(and I think still is) BAD boy on theblock a few years ago.It is NOT just the purine content of so calledtriggers..the overall load.BUT..VERY! important..the speed at whichyour body can assimilate/digest AND send in MORE uric acid when thereIS ALREADY TOO MUCH!Sure..a piece of liver has more purine..BUT takesMUCH longer to digest..and for the total purine load to be dumpedinto the bloodstream.Keep in mind this is ALWAYS an ongoingprocess..getting rid of and putting more purine in.

ADD to this there IS some sort of complex chemicalreaction/chemicals produced by the digestion of certain “large greenleafy vegetables”..that CAN produce a chemical trigger..AS WELL as apurine trigger. Some people may get NO trigger from broccoli.Othersthe purine..others the chemical..others BOTH.

Un-hunh..REMEMBER when ALL green leafy vegetables were safe forgoutees to eat?? NOT! no more!

This is ALL MOOT/OLD!! RE and re and RE-HASHED!..BARELY! wortheven talking about anymore.

After your first gout attack..your body has had about 10/15 to 25years to accumulate uric acic crystals.EITHER you take allopurinol toget rid of them OR you enjoy gout.

It is NO longer complicated.Take allopurinol AND eat, drink whatyou want/need..FORGET!! about all this “trigger” crap.
