How long do the acute attacks last

I am newly diagnosed and amhaving a bad bout right now. My feet, ankles, knees, hands, wrists, and elbows are all burning and painful. I have been on the couch for3 weeks now as walking for too long doesn’t work. I think I have hadsmall attacks in the past but just put them off to body stress. I am35 and found out my grandmother had her gout come on about the sametime. Some questions?? Pain relief:..I can’t use Ibuprofen so whatworks for anyone? Asprin? Hydrocodein? Ice packs on feet and handsseem to give me some relief from the burning for 30 minutes or so.Time frame:..how long do the acute attacks last? I keep thinking I canmentally get through the pain if I just have some realistic time frameto adjust to. The ten day mark someone told me about has long goneand some areas feel worse now. Attacks:…Does exercise bring this on?I walked alot for a few days(miles) before this came on and I amwondering how long after this goes down do I have to wait before I cando light or moderate exercise…will activity always bring it on?..Ieat organic and healthy as I have already survived one major illnessat 25 and I don’t drink. My reg. doctor diagnosed this just before sheleft for a month but we both thought it might be something I couldjust wait out and rest through. I see a lot about medications listedthough she and I just set up cherry juice and a naturalantiinflammatory herb. Any help with any of these many area’s ofquestions is greatly appre

Colchicine should bring u thru the rough if you can stomach it. Awhole lot of water, more then you can possibly stand, then some more ontop of that. Gout doesn’t really have anything to do with youreating/exercise/etc habits. Typically a genetic disorder where youeither under excrete or over produce uric acid. None of the herbalstuff addresses lowering your uric acid (which forms thosecrystals-which are kicking ur ass right now) Allopurinol is the mostcommon treatment for gout since it is proven to work bylowering/retarding the bodies production of uric acid, thus allowingthe kidneys to flush it out properly/efficiently. Uric Acid and thecrystals they produce, if left untreated, can lead to disability bypermanently damaging the joints they inflict. I don’t know how youwere diagnosed with gout but typically gout initially starts in thefoot area (big toe most common, but ankles as well)

You shouldn’t have to go too far back in the post history to find somehard data from Walter or Arnold on the whole scientific stuff aboutgout. Drink/eat your cherries or cherry juice, take vitamin C orwhatever other herbal/over the counter stuff you’d like. Can’t say itwill help much but it certainly wont hurt you.

You can truly appreciate/understand gout when you realize that the painassociated with a gout attack is only a side of gout. Gout stays withyou for life, it may show up again or it may never again (in rarecases). To effectively treat gout, the pain needs to be treated rightaway (so u don’t kill urself) then the cause of the pain needs to beaddressed.

You can find pretty much anything you ever wanted to know about goutright here; from the members who are trying to deal with gout thrunatural/herbal/over the counter remedies to the ones that are oneprescribed medication.
