I think it is both inteesting and important. Just becausesome one has gout, it does not mean that they do not also have theopoportunity in life to suffer from arthritis. The root cause of thetwo ailments are very different but the overall reaction of the bodyto the affected area is actually the same and I believe that arhumatoid flare up can percipitate a gout flare up and vise-versa.

I have no evidence that this is true from data, but it is myobservation about my own body. I have pretty bad pains in my kneesand my right shoulder and I have noticed that when I have a goutincident in my feet, my knees hurt badly and so does my shoulder.

I have also noticed that when I eat foods that I am allergic to, Ilove shrimp and lobster and always pay the price when I eat them, that I will often get a gout flare up within hours of myindescression. My theory is that these foods that I am allergic to-shrimp would make me break out in hives when I was a young man, -trigger an overall inflammation reaction and in most cases there issome level of crystallization of sodium urate in my feet and theincreased inflammation reaction, from food, starts the process in myfeet-i.e. a gout flare up. In all cases that i can remember, a flareup of this kind will also be accompanied by trouble in my knees andshoulder.

I don’t really understand the underlying cause of either but I thinkarthritus and gout-they used to be classed together by the way, aresymbiotic ailments, feeding on each other. My dad, who is 90 and goutfree, has pretty bad arthritus in his hip and knees and my symptomsin my knees mirror his exactly.

I think that because we suffer so badly from gout that we tend toattribute everything to gout and it is probably an error in manycases because as I said, gout does not give you immunity to rumatoidarthritus.
