Flax seeds & your health

FlaxFlax seed and flax seed oil is gaining more and more attention among health conscious people in Europe, North America and many other parts of the world, even in places where flax seed is not a part of the traditional diet. While interested in the potential health benefits of flax seed consumption, many consumers are still confused over how to integrate flax seed in their diet. Many of them end up purchasing flax seed oil pills, which is a bit sad since flax seed is such a delicious and versatile seed that can be enjoyed in all sorts of meals. Why not start out by making this delicious flax seed oil dressing for your next salad? The next step is to sprinkle some freshly grained flax seeds over your breakfast cereals, and then perhaps add some whole flax seeds when you make bread.

Fresh flax seed salad dressing
To begin with, chop fresh tomatoes until you have ¼ cup of them. Put them in your blender and add ¼ cup of flax seed oil, ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of chives, 1 teaspoon of basil, and one pinch of salt. Finally, squeeze down roughly 3 tablespoons of lemon juice. (Many salad lovers prefer freshly squeezed lemon juice in their dressing but if you find it messy to squeeze your own you can use lemon juice from a bottle.) The final step is simply to process everything in the blender and enjoy the result.

Tilapia food

TilapiaTilapia is a great fish for anyone who needs to add more fish to their diet. Tilapia fish is lean and high in protein. This is one of many popular tilapia recipes where the fish is combined with vegetables to add beneficial vitamins. Don’t worry about the alcohol; all of it will boil away before the dish is ready to eat.

Start by heating up a big skillet over medium heat. Ideally use a non-stick skillet since this will reduce the need for grease. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the 6 ounces of tilapia fillets and season with salt and pepper. Put the fillets in the skillet and squeeze the juice from ½ lemon over them. Cook the fillets until you can use a fork to flake them, it will normally take around 3 minutes per side. Put the fillets on a warm plate and keep them warm. Squeeze the remaining ½ of the lemon over the skillet and add ½ cup of white wine, 2 chopped tomatoes, 3 tablespoons of capers, and salt and pepper to taste. Turn the heat up to medium high and leave to boil for 2 minutes (this will remove the alcohol from the white wine). Bring the heat down to low and put the fillets back in the skillet. Add 1 cup of asparagus spears (cut in halves). Cover the skillet and leave to simmer for 2 minutes. Serve immediately.

Tips! If you are okay with adding some butter to the dish, you can increase the heat to medium high after removing the tilapia fillets. Whisk in 3 tablespoons of butter and boil to desired consistency. Spoon the butter sauce over the tilapia fillets and serve. Butter is rich in fat soluble vitamins.

Dietary influences; females and gout.

As to coping with the diet…Purine content of foods plays a very slight rolein your levels. Fluid intake and allopurinol willplay a greater role.

As to females:A pre-menopausal female usually will not getgout, but this is merely the statistics. YOU arenot a statistic.

The usual confirmatory test is a bichromaticanalysis of aspirated synovial fluid from theaffected joint.

Was there suffed onset? At night?Initially painful that even a bedsheet wasintolerable?

Uric acid levels

I’ve recently been diagnosed with gout after my first attack justbefore Christmas. On researching gout on the Internet I came acrossthis mailing list last week, and have been reading my way throughsome of the recent posts. It’s all very interesting stuff - much morethen you ever get from a hurried GP.

I’ve had two blood tests to measure my U/A levels, and they came backwith levels around 500 (micro mol / gram of blood if I remembercorrectly). Reading through the posts here people are talking aboutlevels between 4 and 5. Is this a different measure of u/a levels, ordifferent units, or something different all together?

Thanks if someone can help me with my newbie question

Get some new shoes!!

I feel this needs to be stressed again. The importance of gettingnew shoes..ESPECIALLY when finally doing something about gout..i/ehopping the “A” train. Uric acid deposits wreak havoc..interferring/restricting movementsof the bones/joints in the foot/lower leg/knee.. With the “A” drug..these deposits will leave/or want to.The boneswill want to realign/expand movement/stretch..

GIVE ‘EM THE CHANCE!..

High arch runners are the best..especially the high archsupport..taking some of the weight off the ball..allowing for morestretching of the foot.

Your old runners..yes parts of the support will already becompressed/worn to accomodate your old foot shape..I DOUBT whetherthey will return to normal..you need new ones.

DON’T bother with expensive ones..Cdn.price..big box stores..$15/$20..$30/$35 will put you into REAL good runners!..beware! the veryexpensive ones..they wear out FAST!

I would avoid the foot Dr’s..AND the supports..problem withgetting a hard orthototic..is sure they are good NOW..they won’t bewhen your foot reverts back to normal shape..these suckers are $400-$600 here..the cheaper compressible orthotics..ditto..sure they aregood now..but they won’t be at some point.

I have probablly 12 pairs of these around my house..in variousdegrees of support.I used to have to have several pair right besidemy bed..for a couple of years..stepping/standing/wallking on ANY hardsurface..barefoot..NO WAY!!..I’ld make my way to the kitchen..andmake a decison as to which other shoe I might need..on the fridge..SOMY dog can’t take them out and BURY THEM!(yes he has done that..NOTfound??)I had several other pairs on the fridge..varying degrees ofsupport..I would CONSTANTLY be wearing odd shoes..as my feet regainedtheir shape..some of the shoes I wore as I battled gout..AND thepronitits with it..getting on the “A” train..REALLY exacerbated!!!the pronitits…I can no longer wear them..

BUT!! I am 99.9% I get out of bed..and can be SHOE FREE!!.. F MAN..I VIVIDLY(TOO VIVIDLY!)..remember NOT being able to evenget out of bed for like about 2 years..WITHOUT putting my shoes onFIRST!..I kept the shoes under my bed/on my bed..tryYELLING/SCREAMING! at your 100 lb..rambunctious puppy dog..as hegrabs a shoe..and moves JUST far enough away from you..as he standsthere growling/shakes it in his mouth..flailing it/flinging it by thelaces..(YES I do even have a picture of the dog trying to get themOFF the fridge..

Gout is such a nice lovelly disease.. I really enjoy(d) it

This as I root around sort of looking for some seriouslly stiffhard ass/race/competition/UNCOMFORTABLE!.ski boots..

I thought those days MIGHT have been over..

“Welcome to the “A” train..have your tickets ready”

2nd attack??

my first attack involved the toes, is it possibleto have second attack that is just the left thumband wrist?

Celery seed extract works for me

I have had gout attacks periodically for about 15 years. They weregetting increasingly worse and frequent about a year ago. I had daysI couldn’t stand at all, with both feet swollen simultaneously. Ibegan taking allopurinol which helped some but I would still getattacks which required colchicine to relieve. Colchicine was brutal onmy digestive system. My wife read about a doctor who treated his owngout with celery seed extract successfully. I haven’t had even a hintof discomfort since I began taking it about 6 months ago. I take itreligously, daily, and nothing else, no allopurinal… Please doresearch on this yourself, but it has been a real godsend for me.
